The most dangerous phenomenon on Earth today is the melting of glaciers. Scientists are not in vain sounding the alarm, because glaciers contain a large amount of fresh water, which evaporates and dilutes the world's oceans. The ecology of the planet is already in a critical situation due to multi-ton emissions and human intrusion into the bosom of nature. Therefore, alternative power sources for engines, those that do not pollute the atmosphere and "protect" clean air, reach a new level of demand.
We have all heard about electric cars and other "electro", traveling on the roads of the globe. And that at the request of ecology is responsible for the sea transport? There are not so many examples, but they successfully manifest themselves in everyday life. The Norwegians went the furthest in this matter. The unique system of fjords and lakes is destroyed by diesel engines and numerous emissions. Therefore, back in 2011, the Norwegian Ministry of transport and communications announced a tender for the creation of a zero-emission ferry. Now the Ampere ferry successfully runs in the waters of Norway and the experience of its operation shows a reduction in harmful emissions by up to 95%, and a reduction in maintenance costs by 80%. A powerful battery weighing 11 tons powers two electric motors and can handle the weight of 120 cars and 360 passengers at a time. At the same time, the cost of electricity in this case is only$6.
Battery-powered vessels are being developed in many countries around the world - the United States and Korea, Finland and the Netherlands. It is worth noting that this is not the first attempt of mankind to create such a transport. Even in the NINETEENTH century, small boats did without a gasoline engine and had a certain popularity. Today, such vessels have ceased to be a piece product and also carry out commercial transportation with an emphasis on economic benefits and a longer service life.
In Russia, they also developed similar machines, but before that, batteries were used as additional or emergency power sources. The breakthrough occurred in 2019, when the exhibition "Neva-2019" was presented to the public "Ecovolt", ready to accommodate 86 passengers, 18 meters long and running exclusively on an electric motor. Also in 2019, by order of the Ministry of industry and trade of Russia, the development of a medium-haul automobile and passenger eco – friendly electric ferry designed for the Baltiysk-Baltiyskaya Kosa line (Kaliningrad region)
One way or another, when creating such a transport, humanity is still searching for answers to questions. We haven't decided about them in terms of battery capacity, and how to make transportation available not only between countries, but also between continents. When this problem is solved, we will get an environmentally friendly transport with low costs for both transportation and maintenance.
